Apart from being known as the city of Batik, Cirebon is also famous for rattan crafts. As one\nof the regions in Cirebon, Tegalwangi is the center of this rattan handicrafts.The business of\nrattan handicrafts has been part of the economic and cultural development of both\nTegalwangi and Cirebon since the 80s. The development of Tegalwangi is marked by the\nemergence of rattan craftsmen activity centers, which can be found practically everywhere.\nThe scale of the industry itself is quite diverse, ranging from home industries that usually\nconsist of 15-30 workers, to large-scale industries that can accommodate up to 1000\nworkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rattan commodity has become one of the pillars of Cirebon\u2019s economy. According to the\nCirebon Industry and Trade Service, the export value of rattan furniture throughout 2023\namounted to 127.48 million USD and rattan woven goods were at 27.66 million USD.\nThroughout 2023, Cirebon has exported 22,025 tons of furniture to countries in Europe, East\nAsia, and the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the government of Cirebon is working intensively to develop new markets for the\nrattan industry and restore it to its glory days in the early 2000s. One of the ideas is to\nestablish rattan tourism. The primary objective is to educate tourists who come to learn more\nabout rattan handicraft products while boosting the economy of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
