Malaca rattan, also known by the scientific name Calamus MananCalamus Manan, is a type of rattan that thrives in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. Malaca rattan has long been an important part of Indonesian culture, not only as a raw material for handicrafts, but also has high ecological and economic value.

Malaca rattan is a type of rattan that grows in clumps, has a light brown or light brown to blackish dark brown color, climbs, reaches 100 m in length and even more, diameter without midrib is about 25-35 mm. Therefore, Malaca rattan is categorized as a large-diameter rattan. This rattan can be easily found in tropical forests, particularly in humid areas. Malaca rattan also has fruit which is typically tiny and has a spherical shape, with diverse colors ranging from red to orange or brownish. This rattan serves as the primary framework for furniture.

Malaca rattan has existed since early times in Indonesia. People use this rattan to make numerous types of products such as, chairs, tables, baskets, and many more. The primary benefit of Malaca rattan is its high fiber strength, therefore products made from this rattan are relatively durable and solid.
